Several foreign countries have shown interest in the Akash SAM (Surface to Air missile system)developed by drdo ,India.According to ANI there are more than 7 south asian countries and some African countries are interested in buying Akash SAM .
Yesterday Union cabinet cleared the proposal to export indigenous Akash surface to air missile system,Now a public sector unit under Defence Ministry will explore the opportunities to expot the weapon to those countries, they added.
Yesterday its was cleared by the Modi Govt and also approved to set up a separate committee which will be responsible for clearing future defence equipment for export.Under Atmanirbhar Bharat program India is trying to develop and enhance its defence manufacturing capabilities.
Akash may be a SAM with a variety of 25 kilometres. The missile was used by indian Air Force (IAF) since 2014 and its army variant was inducted in 2015.
“Besides Akash, there’s interest coming in other major platforms like Coastal closed-circuit television , Radars and Air platforms. A Committee comprising of Raksha Mantri, External Affairs Minister and National Security Advisor has been created,” which will be responsible for providing faster approvals for export of such platforms,
